General Info: We believe in making our patientsâ?? experience fun and memorable. We host frequent contests, both in the office and on our Facebook page. We celebrate Red Sox opening day with an ice cream sundae party, and Halloween is celebrated with our annual candy buy-back program. Our patients are rewarded with ice cream gift certificates when braces go on and popcorn and sugarless gum when they come off. We have a "wall of fame" in our reception area with articles and photos about our patients and their accomplishments. We love to celebrate our patients and their families.

Dr. Melita regularly attends more than the required hours of continuing education courses per year. This allows her to stay current with new orthodontic methods as well as learn about new techniques and technologies that will benefit her patients. For example, she has incorporated digital X-rays that use less radiation, and Temporary Anchor Devices (TADs) that greatly improve her ability to close large spaces, reducing the need for implants.

Just as orthodontics repositions teeth, surgical orthodontics (also known as orthognathic surgery) corrects jaw irregularities to improve the patient’s ability to chew, speak, and breathe and for improved facial appearances. In other words, surgical orthodontics straightens your jaw. Moving the jaws also moves the teeth, so braces are always performed in conjunction with jaw correction. This helps make sure teeth are in their proper positions after surgery.

Braces
Dr. Melita will consider surgical treatment for patients with severe bite problems and asymmetries that cannot be corrected using braces alone and for those with facial esthetic concerns. In a growing patient, Dr. Melita can use one of several orthodontic appliances to direct jaw growth, thus attempting to eliminate the need for surgery. Therefore, timely intervention is important. Jaw growth is usually completed by around age 16 for girls and early â€™20s for boys.

Teeth Whitening
The virtually invisible aligners, which are made of a thermoplastic material uniquely developed for the Invisalign treatment plan, look similar to tooth-whitening trays. Invisalign aligners are custom-made for you and only you to move your teeth in the sequence determined by your doctor.
